Recipients of Personal Independence Payments (PIP) have been alerted to necessary actions they must take before Christmas, particularly those who also receive Employment Support Allowance (ESA). ESA is being phased out and replaced by Universal Credit (UC), which means claimants must apply for UC themselves as the transition is not automatic.
In September, migration notice letters were sent out to ESA claimants to inform them of this change. Recipients have a three-month window from the date on their letter to complete their UC application. If they do not switch to UC within this timeframe, their payments will be halted. As these letters were dispatched in September, there is a risk that any payment disruptions could overlap with the festive season, highlighting the importance of managing finances and completing the UC application promptly.
