Heart Breakfast co-host Jamie Theakston has revealed he has been diagnosed with stage one laryngeal cancer. He shared that he recently underwent surgery to remove a lesion from his vocal cords, and the prognosis is "very positive." The cancer was detected through a biopsy.
In his statement, Theakston, 53, expressed a resilient attitude: "So - I have cancer - but cancer doesn't have me. The prognosis is very positive, and I'm hoping to return in October. In the meantime, I've been advised to rest my voice and will leave you in the capable hands of JK (Jason King) and Amanda (Holden). I’m deeply grateful for their support, as well as for the incredible backing from the Global family. Cherish each day, and when I return, I’ll have a great story to share ... Jamie x."
Heart Radio showed their support on Instagram, referring to Theakston as "our beloved Jamie."
Amanda Holden, Theakston's co-host, reassured listeners, saying, "While it’s cancer, the news is not entirely negative." Her current co-host, JK (Jason King), who usually presents the Drivetime show with Kelly Brook, added, "The prognosis is very positive, and Jamie has an excellent team working on his treatment. He will be okay and hopes to be back with us soon." Holden also mentioned that Theakston had emphasized the importance of continuing the show, stating, "He has told us that the show must go on, and that’s exactly what we will do."
